The suborder Suiformes includes two families of Pigs (Suidae) and Peccary pigs (Tayassuidae), gathering omnivorous even-toed ungulates with short and fat legs, a nose shaped like a shovel used to dig for food.

If the "orthodox" pigs are widely distributed in the "Old World", including Asia, Europe and Africa, the peccary pigs are endemic to the "New World" - the Americas.
