Deanna Theis, the center's assistant director, said Alex's survival in such a harsh environment could be considered a miracle. When he was found, Alex was close to death.

After a period of adequate care, Alex is now healthy again and weighs 19.5kg. Due to eating too much, Alex's belly skin showed signs of sagging and was forced to undergo surgery to remove excess skin.
